World primary aluminium production dips 3% M-o-M in April'23

According to the International Aluminium Institute, world primary aluminium production amounted to 5.628 million tonnes in April 2023, reflecting a fall of 3.18 per cent month-on-month from 5.813 million tonnes. The output in March recorded an increase of 10.03 per cent month-on-month from 5.283 million tonnes.
On a year-on-year comparison, world primary aluminium production in April grew marginally by 0.34 per cent from 5.609 million tonnes.
In the first four months of 2023, world primary aluminium production totalled 22.582 million tonnes, up by 1.77 per cent from 22.136 million tonnes during the same period last year.
World’s average daily primary aluminium production was 187,600 tonnes in April’23 compared to 187,500 tonnes a month ago and 187,000 tonnes a year earlier.
In China, primary aluminium production in April 2023 stood at 3.315 million tonnes – 3.24 per cent less than 3.426 million tonnes in March 2023 and muted compared to 3.313 million tonnes in April 2022.
From January to April, China produced 13.331 million tonnes of primary aluminium, up by 3.32 per cent from 12.903 million tonnes during the same period of the previous year.
In the GCC countries, primary aluminium output during April 2023 was 502,000 tonnes, registering a slight rise of 1,000 tonnes from 519,000 tonnes in March 2023. On a year-on-year basis, the output rose significantly by 20,000 tonnes from 500,000 tonnes.
In the first four months of the year, primary aluminium production in the GCC countries stood at 2.015 million tonnes, compared to 1.995 million tonnes a year ago.
In Asia (ex-China), primary aluminium production also decreased month-on-month by 3.27 per cent from 398,000 tonnes to 385,000 tonnes. However, on an annual basis, the output increased by 2.12 per cent from 377,000 tonnes, found IAI.
